CNN GOES OFF On Michigan Voters Over SHOCKING New Poll

Added September 21, 2026

On CNN's Inside Politics, anchor Dana Bash reacted to a new Washington Post-Schar School poll of 803 likely Michigan voters, conducted September 10-14. The poll asked which types of presidential candidates' respondents would not consider voting for. Forty-five percent said they would not consider a Muslim candidate, 46 percent said the same of an atheist, 20 percent of a Jewish candidate, and 7 percent of a Christian candidate. Bash called the Muslim figure "just gross" on air. The discussion came up because Michigan's Senate race pits Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, who is Muslim, against Republican Mike Rogers. The same poll showed El-Sayed at 48 percent and Rogers at 45 percent, within the margin of error. A separate CNN/SSRS poll from early September also found the race close, with El-Sayed at 47 percent and Rogers at 44 percent.

"It's just gross." — CNN anchor Dana Bash, reacting on Inside Politics to a poll finding that 45% of likely Michigan voters would not consider voting for a Muslim presidential candidate.
